Roy Edmonds established a medical school centered in Suva, Fiji. The purpose of this medical school was to train doctors to serve the medical needs of population in Polynesia. (Polynesia being spread out over a very large area, the people were not easily within reach of medical services.) The medical doctors trained were not as knowledgeable as possible, but were able to satisfy the medical needs of the people in most cases. In addition to training the doctors, Dr. Roy Edmonds acted as a "flying doctor", flying when needed to satisfy medical needs that required more knowledge and experience.
